Clinical Advisor to the Hub
Matt Brown, RN, Geriatric Nurse Navigator
Matt is a Geriatric Nurse Navigator with the NICHE (Nurses Improving the Care of Healthsystem Elders) department. He’s a Sibley lifer that started on 6 West as an extern before finishing nursing school. After 8 years as a med-surg nurse, he now works in a unique role to ensure all patients over 65 get safe, outstanding care, but just as importantly that Sibley stays a warm, forward-thinking hospital; a hospital using new ways of thinking to deliver the same wonderful Sibley care. He has been working to build patient-focused connections between the Hub’s design thinking projects and the front-lines of Sibley.
Matt was part of the team that participated in the VA make-a-thon where he helped in the development of the award-winning Camo Cup, and he has been a key contributor to other projects in The Hub such as transitions, healthy aging, and the patient centered room. He is currently leading the trials of the “About Me Boards” in an effort to get patients seen more as people. The NICHE team also used design thinking to develop the Senior Focused Transition which has helped demonstratively impact patient experience scores in older patients on a target unit.
When he’s not working with older patients or sprinting through the Hub to share feedback, Matt is learning to work with the younger generation in taking care of (mostly playing with) his 1 year old daughter. When life allows the time he enjoys cooking with his wife, Caps hockey, live music and playing any sport that involves a Frisbee.
