Maybe you've seen them. The mythical, the illustrious, the new innovators-in-residence that the hub was lucky enough to land. Dr. Shelly Bhowmik and Ms. Brandie Carey started their residency with the innovation team on Monday, and will be working with us for the next several months.

So what did we do to welcome them? Toss them into the deep end, obviously.

Over the course of the week we gave them bigger and bigger challenges. It started out simply--internalize human-centered design in 90 minutes, and then be ready to use it in the real world. Of course, the "simply" part is anything but...

Then it quickly became even more complex: "Take what you learned and apply it. There's a problem with the sinks on several of the nursing floors, and it's creating a water and mold hazard. Fix it!"

On Day 3 it really started to ramp up: "Help us lead a structured brainstorming session around arrival and departure from the hospital; consolidate those ideas, refine them, and present them to the hospital leadership...in the same day."

Needless to say, they performed admirably, and the entire innovation team is excited to work with Shelly and Brandie on projects within Sibley and around the community. If you met them during their "field work" this week, then you know that they're friendly and inquisitive. If you haven't yet run into them, stop on by the hub and say hello!
